'A Treasure Chest Unlocked?', Saturday 9th October 2010

Employing the lightest of touches John Plunkett has been nursing the highly intriguing organ at the Old Meeting House back into a playable state, carefully recording his discoveries at each stage of his restrained restoration work. On a beautifully sunny afternoon he shared what he's uncovered so far. Anne Page demonstrated the instrument's capabilities with an appropriate choice of music before NOA members were invited to inspect the work and play the organ for themselves.

Thanks to Barry Gordon for the photographs.

The Old Meeting House dates from 1693. The organ case is definitely 17th century too, almost certainly by Dallam and quite possibly originally part of the organ in Norwich Cathedral
